JEMBER – The Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Humanities (FUAH) of UIN Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq (UIN KHAS) Jember held an International Seminar themed "Revitalization of the Role of Religion in the Artificial Intelligence Era" on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The event, located at the BEC Building, 3rd Floor, featured experts from across nations to discuss the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence (AI) for religious life.

The seminar was opened with remarks from the Dean of FUAH UIN KHAS Jember, Prof. Dr. Ahidul Asror, M.Ag. In his speech, Prof. Asror highlighted the capabilities of AI, which have now permeated various aspects of life, including the academic world.

He emphasized that the impact of AI must be addressed critically. "We are in an era where AI is developing very rapidly. On one hand, this is progress, but on the other hand, there are concerns that many academics in certain positions... their roles could be replaced by AI," he stated.

Furthermore, the FUAH Dean highlighted the productivity paradox. He worried that if not balanced with sufficient literacy, AI could instead cause authentic work productivity to decline, as individuals become too dependent on machines.

Therefore, Prof. Asror affirmed that all campus elements must be vigilant against this disruption. "This is a threat we must be wary of together. The campus, as a center of knowledge, must be at the vanguard in responding to the challenges of AI in life," he asserted.

However, he emphasized that the solution is not to reject technology. "We must not be anti-technology, but we must be spiritually intelligent. The key is to make AI a strategic partner in life, not a master or a replacement. This is where the role of religion as a revitalizer, as a moral compass, becomes crucial," he concluded.

This international seminar featured two main speakers. Speaker 1 was Dr. Siti Marpuah, a Senior Lecturer from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, who provided a philosophical perspective. Speaker 2 was Prof. Dr. H. Robby Habiba Abror, M.Hum., a Professor of Religion and Culture from UIN SUKA Yogyakarta, who reviewed it from a social and cultural perspective.

The event, moderated by Al Furqon, M.Th.I., Ph.D, a lecturer at UIN KHAS Jember, took place in a hybrid format, where participants could attend in person or online via the provided Zoom link.
